If you are the owner of an Apple gadget (iphone, ipod or ipad), you may already be aware of iOS 7, the new mobile operating system which is being released in early September to the public. Whilst fans will no doubt be aware of the bigger changes to the interface, there are a number of features which may be overlooked. All these features will have a significant impact on the working of the iOS devices and will make the experience of owning one much improved.
Limit Ad Tracking
This allows you to reset your device’s ‘Advertising Identifier‘ which, in a nutshell means that once turned off, apps are no longer allowed to use the Advertising Identifier to show you targeted ads. Prior to turning this off, you are allowing advertisers to track at least some of your activity on your device, and for them to then use that information to target you with ads that they consider relevant.
Do Not Track in Safari
This is another addition to privacy and security. Again, it is directed at protecting your activity by stopping websites, advertisers and other services from following your online behaviour. It is an improved version of the iOS 6′s Private Browsing and can be turned on under ‘Safari’ in your settings menu.
Auto Close Captioning and Subtitles
This is a brilliant addition for those who are hard of hearing as well as speakers of other languages. It allows you to turn on closed captioning and subtitles where they are available, and also to change the style.
Apps Popular Near Me
You will be able to search in the App Store for apps which are popular in your current location. This is great for travellers who may want to search for apps relevant to the city they are in, not necessarily their home town.
Preset Maps for Walking Directions
The Maps app will have a setting which will allow you to change the default directions setting from driving to walking. This is great for people who only use the Maps appwhen they are walking somewhere.
