Client expectations that an SEO professional should be ready to meet

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

As business enterprises across the world are switching to online marketing, demand for effective SEO service is shooting up. It is SEO that success in online business of an enterprise depends completely upon and hence the service provider has to ensure client satisfaction. Though the basic job of a SEO in case of an online business site or ecommerce site is to help viewers or buyers find the products they are looking for, ecommerce site owners actually expect SEO people to optimize the sales. In case of new businesses, SEOs are even expected to initialize the sale of products.

So an SEO firm should be prepared for meeting the extreme demands when its servicer is being hired by a company. Initializing sales for a business which is new and completely unrecognized is a big challenge for SEO person but that’s what they are meant to do. An SEO should accept the challenge of taking the new business to a level of competition by intensifying the research work. Through close monitoring of the search trends they should identify the most widely used phrases and incorporate them in the contents of a site to improve its ranking on an SERP (search engine result page). While providing service to a new business, an SEO professional should first aim at improving the visibility of the site and then stress on taking it over the sites of rival companies, as far as Google and other search engine rankings are concerned.

Once the SEO service provider succeeds in meeting this expectation of its client, it is very likely that the sales department of that particular business would try to transfer some responsibility on its shoulder. Since satisfaction of client is the ultimate reward, the SEO service provider should accept the charge gladly. There are countless numbers of examples where the SEO department is practically serving as the sales department. This trend is on a rise as searching for products and service of a company on its website is far easier than enquiring over phone or mail. So an SEO service provider should be ready to meet this expectation too.

Though all clients say they are ready to give some time while hiring an SEO service actually they expect quick results. In the present business scenario where competition is getting stiffer by the hour, an SEO service provider should understand that the client expects fast results and hence should work accordingly. A few clients may allow some time to the service provider to perform but majority wouldn’t. They would simply sack the existing service provider and switch to another one. So, the SEO service provider should take up the challenge of showing improvement in the performance of the business very fast and if it fails it should be ready to give an explanation to the client.

Today business enterprises do not only expect SEO to increase the number of visitors to their sites. They expect a higher conversion rate. A site could fetch thousands of visits per day but the real challenge for the SEO lies in converting a big percentage of these visitors into buyers. So the SEO service provider should aim at wooing visitors for products or services of its client’s company.

How to evaluate the necessity of SEO in a small business

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

There is no scope to pose doubt on the fact that SEO service can make a huge impact on online business operation of an enterprise. Business enterprises, irrespective of sizes and the types of products and services they sell can enjoy significant surge in profit margin if there is an effective SEO backing for their websites. The importance of SEO in a small business is same as it is in a big one. The real question is that whether a small business needs SEO service or not?

Well, that depends on the answer to the following question: will the SEO service help the business earn more money than what it costs to the company? If the answer is yes, a small business enterprise shouldn’t think twice about hiring SEO service. If the answer is no then it should look for other ways.

Now you may question how this evaluation can be done? Quite a justified question! Well, take note of the following piece of information: recent research shows that a website that appears at the top of a search list actually gets 56 percent of the total number of clicks for a set of closely related keywords. Just imagine you run a hotel near Hyde Park London. You can expect your website to appear on the Google search list when search is being made using keywords like ‘hotels in Hyde Park’ ‘hotels near Hyde Park’ ‘Hyde Park hotels’ ‘hotels in Hyde Park, London’ ‘hotels near Hyde Park London’ and ‘London Hyde Park hotels’. Now, just consider that the total number of searches for all these keywords is 10,000 per month. If your website is number one on the Google search list it would mean around 5600 clicks for it.

Now you come to the second part of evaluation. You can’t expect every person clicking on your website to book a room at your hotel. There are billions of people who search for websites for checking out different things. To be very practical, you can expect to convert five percent of these clicks into business. That would mean 280 bookings a month. Now multiply this 280 with the tariff of the most common room type in your hotel (considering the tariff of double bed room would be ideal). If the amount is far more than what you are earning from bookings at your hotel right now it is a gain for you. Now add the cost that you would be bearing for the SEO service. If the amount is still far higher, it would mean that SEO is essential for your business.

Apply the formula for your business and tally the figures. You will get the answer to the question: Whether your small business needs SEO service?
