Thanks to competition in the market for browsers, your
audience uses a variety of different browsers to view your website. You need to make sure
that your site is usable to everyone no matter what the browser. Netscape Navigator 6+,
Internet Explorer 5+, Mozilla Firefox 1.0 and Opera 7.0 put together, constitute almost 95%
of the planet’s browsers. So test your site on at least these browsers before you show it to
the world!
It can be
very frustrating for a user to navigate through your site unless you have all the necessary
menus and links at the right places. Most designers prefer to have these buttons right at
the top of the page. Leave white spaces between different items on the page to avoid a
cluttered look. You may also use templates to make the site look good.

Your site may look explosive but that
may not make the users happy! In the age of fast food, don’t expect your audience to wait
for more than 10-15 seconds for your site to load. Optimising the HTML and script codes and
cutting down on Flash, scripts and graphics could greatly reduce file size and thus, loading
time.

Resolutions of computers these days may range from 640 × 480 to 1024 × 768 and above.
Web designing for such a wide range of resolutions can get ugly if you design in terms of
pixels. Seasoned web designers would prefer designing by percentage instead of pixels.

Try to use fonts that are available in all computers instead of rare or fancy
ones. If the font you are using is not in the user’s computer then it will use the default
font which could make your site look abhorrent!
